The real deal…

Our day began at the Musee d’Orsay.  This former train station turned museum/labyrinth houses sculptures, paintings and historical artifacts.  It was on the top floor where we could see some of the impressionist paintings from Monet.  I think I need to make a correction…  When I mentiond in an earlier post that Monet was not famous during his time, I should have said… Monet was not famous at the beginning of his painting career.  However, by the time he passed away, Monet was able to accumulate a significant amount of wealth and fame.  Although we did not get to spend much time here, everything was spectacular.

Next, we took a walk to the Musee d’Orangerie and had the opportunity to view works from Picaso and Monet.  There were two oval shaped rooms where practically the whole walls were covered by this massive water lilly painting by Monet.  I guess Monet had given these artworks as a gift specifically designed for the oval shaped rooms.  The bottom floor had tons of more paintings and a whole wall of Picaso’s works.

Finally, we spent the rest of the afternoon exploring and shopping in Paris.  Tomorrow, we travel on a charter bus about 2.5 hours to see a chateau or two.

P.S.  I went to go see the ballet tonight in Paris.  It was an interesting experience to say the least.  The main dancer split the rear of his pants during the second act and it had me giggling in my seat.  However, I do have to give the guy credit because he went on and kept dancing like nothing was wrong.  It is exactly what Mr. Stryker would do back home in one of his ballet performances.
